Artificial Intelligence Policy

The Diyala Journal for Veterinary Sciences (DJVS) acknowledges that artificial intelligence (AI) tools can support researchers in various aspects of their work, including literature review, data analysis, and language refinement. However, to ensure academic integrity, transparency, and author accountability, the following policy governs the acceptable use of AI in manuscripts submitted to DJVS.

  1. Acceptable Use of AI Tools

Authors may use AI-based tools for supportive, non-substantive tasks such as:

  • Grammar, spelling, and style editing.
  • Reference management assistance.
  • Data analysis support, provided the process is clearly described and results are validated.
  • Minor image adjustments or formatting (not content creation).

Such use must not compromise the originality, accuracy, or integrity of the research.

  1. Prohibited Use of AI Tools

The following uses of AI are strictly prohibited in DJVS submissions:

  • Generating or fabricating research data or experimental results.
  • Writing substantive sections of the manuscript (e.g., Abstract, Methods, Results, Discussion) without full human authorship oversight.
  • Creating or modifying images, figures, or photographs in a way that misrepresents original findings.
  • Submitting AI-generated material as human-authored work without proper disclosure.
  1. Disclosure Requirements

If AI tools are used, authors must:

  • Clearly state the tool name, version, and purpose of use in the Acknowledgments or Methods section, as appropriate.
  • Accept full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all content, regardless of AI assistance.
  • Ensure AI-assisted material complies with DJVS’s Publication Ethics and does not introduce bias, inaccuracies, or ethical concerns.

Example Disclosure Statement:

"Portions of the language editing in this manuscript were assisted by [AI tool name, version]. All intellectual content and final decisions remain the responsibility of the authors."

  1. Authorship and AI Tools

AI tools cannot be credited as authors. All listed authors must meet DJVS’s Authorship Policy criteria and take responsibility for the integrity and accuracy of the work.

  1. Peer Review and AI
  • Reviewers must not use AI tools to analyze or summarize confidential manuscript content.
  • Peer review reports must be the product of the reviewer’s own critical evaluation without AI-generated assistance.
  1. Ethical Compliance

Any misuse of AI tools—such as undisclosed AI-generated text, data, or images—identified before or after publication will be treated as a serious ethics violation and addressed according to DJVS’s Plagiarism Policy and COPE guidelines.
